It’s a lot better than having a cat go through all kinds of dealdy crap and come back in the next scene comepletely unharmed.
I’m guessing the animator got lazy.
No, I think KZN02 is right. It looks like one of the episodes where they are on the island, trying to solve the murder mystery. Plus, as someone mentioned, there appears to be a cut between the second and third subtitles, suggesting that a portion of the animation was removed to create this apparent mistake.
Yeah, that is why Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya and others have like 20 minutes of repeated footage. It saves them like a week of animation. And the life of 100 slaves.
I just re-watched that part and there wasn’t anything wrong with that scene.. The right leg was supposed to cross over at some point.. I think whoever made this cut that part out.. FAIL =(
no way that there is a cut in this. the movement is aproppriate only for the mistake, its impossible to picture a “right” way hidden in this. the movement and the screen size wouldnt allow any other behavior
it is fairly common in animation in general(not just in japanese anime) that some frame get reused on some scenes. I’d say the guy/girl who provided this gif must have cut the scene at one frame and continued it at another that looked very similar/exactly alike. If you’re still not convinced then I suggest watching that scene @ The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi Episode 08(chronological: Ep. 11) @ around 4:20-4:30. That should be easy enough to do.
Please watch the scene before posting such statements. For every one’s convenience I uploaded the video. Please Watch CAREFULLY and considering it’s in HD it shouldn’t be too hard to miss.
Actually, what I meant by a a coincident was that it just so happens that the frames are so similar that when the part was cut out, it didn’t look edited. Nothing personal, right?
Is that video from the dvd or part of the second season? But in any case, they most likely have fixed it because that scene is exactly like the gif (minus the removed frames) in the tv version of the first season of haruhi.
i agree, i dont see anything wrong either, the movement appears to be natural overall, with a weird flicker where part of the animation was removed. take note of the dialogue, notice how some of it flickers?
you watch the feet you see she turns around and it’s still the right leg some people need to actually watch things before posting them and making themselves like idot’s
This has been faked. The episode doesn’t do this. I think she takes two steps, then turns around. You can also tell because the subtitles go WAY too fast, and don’t make sense if you read them. This was cut for sure.
Although this disproves that this gif was the original, it just comes to show how perfectly close a coincidence can be. This is still a win for whoever made this gif.
So you’ve got this team of animators, all drawing the same characters over and over, frame by frame, coloring, shading, lip-synching….and they make one mistake and you people say they’re hacks, that this is bad animation?
Try to make your own animated series before you judge hardworking artists. This particular anime is very entertaining and humorous, they did a fine job on it.
And even moreso, the animation problem was fixed on the DVD release apparently. That’s a better argument for good animators versus bad ones. They caught their mistake and corrected it so that people spending their hard earned money would get a better quality animation than what was shown on TV.
On top of that, anime shown on TV is bound to have lots of errors simply because the deadlines for new episodes can be very overwhelming. Sometimes they HAVE to sacrifice correct animation for speed. Talk to anyone who’s worked on a major animated project and they’ll tell you how chaotic and stressful it can be.
Plenty of animators take shortcuts. When’s the last time you saw a “human” cartoon character with five fingers? Any sort of attention to detail in the average show your kid religiously watches? It’s all solid lines and solid colors. Anime artists put much more work into their episodes, yet they have the same deadlines as the shortcut junkies over in america. You bet your ass there will be mistakes. They just don’t have TIME to finish it properly sometimes.
People never appreciate the product of someone’s efforts. They always pick at tiny flaws and bring them down.
Well said! Bushels of Internets and a tip of the cap to you, good sir.
Well, except for the part about people never appreciating hard work. Obviously you do, as do quite a few of us. Those who don’t are just the loudest ones.
As was proven in the two links above, the original was correctly animated. The gif above just cuts out frames to make it look like a mistake. Still a cool gif though.
Actually i have seen this episode and this does not happen. The gif you see has been shopped, you can even see where it skips when the subbs move away too quickly.
I just saw the original anime episode this was in and remembered seeing this gif. A quick Google search later and I find everyone saying it’s a fake. The guy who made this gif just cut out some frames where no one was moving: the actual animation really was messed up. Here’s the original scene, watch from 4:20 to 4:30…
*brain implodes*
I hate that cheap stupid anime. It’s too crappy to qualify as proper animation.
It’s a lot better than having a cat go through all kinds of dealdy crap and come back in the next scene comepletely unharmed.
I’m guessing the animator got lazy.
i tots agree
hey man, that’s just generalizing…but yeah a ton of it is really s**tty
Then Haruhi shall strike you dead.
YEAH!!
I’m pretty sure western animation contains a lot of cheap tricks to save time and money too.
You idiot this not a cheap anime it’s one of the best ones. It’s called Melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
its actually possible to do that, you just cross your legs to turn around.
thats gotta hurt.
QUALITY
Its elastic.
My brain can’t grasp this.. *Implodes too*
what is this i don’t even.
You don’t even what?
They don’t even, that’s it.
They just accidentally the whole verb, is all.
I think we all got twelve-years-old-and-what-is-thised.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?
No. And what you said counts as blasphemy.
In fact, this is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya!
And the original dialogue is as follows:
I really didn’t want to consider this, but…
…isn’t Yutaka-san the main suspect?
After all, he’s nowhere to be found.
That reminds me…
Which means there IS a cut between the frames.
You’re right!
And doesn’t she walk back and forth in this scene? As in the legs have changed on the second walk.
Lazy trolls….
LOL it is Haruhi! XD Serious fail!
No, I was thinking this looks like it too. One of the two episodes where they’re on that island wasn’t it?

Plus, as someone mentioned, there appears to be a cut between the second and third subtitles, suggesting that a portion of the animation was removed to create this apparent mistake.
lazy Japanese animators.
now correct me if im wrong, but most animators in japan work on several projects at once with deadlines looming like sword of dammocles.
Not to mention they are often made to take drugs to keep them up long long hours or days at a time. Its amazing anything comes out at all.
like he said, lazy
That and the horribly limiting budget they have to work with.
Yeah, that is why Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya and others have like 20 minutes of repeated footage. It saves them like a week of animation. And the life of 100 slaves.
Well, to be fair, those both predate modern animation technique. As I recall, they’re largely hand-drawn.
Nope, you just got trolled, look at GoingToHell’s comments and the replies above you, they are actually right…
Watafak is this ?
Like dre said : Lazy animators who didn’t want to drawn a real turn animation.
I really didn’t want to consider this, but…
I just re-watched that part and there wasn’t anything wrong with that scene.. The right leg was supposed to cross over at some point.. I think whoever made this cut that part out.. FAIL =(
and you can clearly point out that there was something skipped when the leg was about to turn
Then there is the subtitles on how the second line moves like its on speed.
No, I’ve seen the original a while back, and it’s definitely an animation fail.
Yeah, it’s clearly cut. The subtitles change too quick for a natural conversation speed, and the shading behind the guy changes colour.
i.e. I can tell from the pixels, and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.
If you watch the original video, Her right heel stays in the air for ~3 seconds, so the OP just cut the extra footage out.
no way that there is a cut in this. the movement is aproppriate only for the mistake, its impossible to picture a “right” way hidden in this. the movement and the screen size wouldnt allow any other behavior
Look at the shadows on the wall behind the guy.
Also, the subtitles skip much to fast between the first and last sentence.
So,… staged?
And bi-curious!

There are things called “coincidences” and this just happens to be one
Please watch the scene before posting such statements. For every one’s convenience I uploaded the video. Please Watch CAREFULLY and considering it’s in HD it shouldn’t be too hard to miss.
Actually, what I meant by a a coincident was that it just so happens that the frames are so similar that when the part was cut out, it didn’t look edited. Nothing personal, right?
Alright, so that’s what you meant by coincidence eh? My bad
Just in case no one here knows what the term “carefully” means, I’ll explain.
In the gif, the leg with the red line on it says “right leg” at first, but in fact, it is the left leg.
Since you can’t see the knees, it’s easy to confuse the two especially since the first few frames of her walking were cut out.
So, bottom line, there is no screwed up physics here. The left leg is always the left leg.
Congratulations, you found the DVD version!
In other words, the version that came out AFTER the animation mistake was fixed.
Is that video from the dvd or part of the second season? But in any case, they most likely have fixed it because that scene is exactly like the gif (minus the removed frames) in the tv version of the first season of haruhi.
I have to disagree, its’ definitely there. They have cut some frames out, but nothing that would actually change anything.
If anybody wants to check, this is from Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, episode 8 (broadcast order), starting at 4:20.
i agree, i dont see anything wrong either, the movement appears to be natural overall, with a weird flicker where part of the animation was removed. take note of the dialogue, notice how some of it flickers?
QUALITY!
Or maybe the character had their legs crossed? It ain’t that hard….
Look at the toes.
I did, and the persons legs was crossed
Well if the gif starts when she had just finished turning around, the legs could be correct.
how? what? where? No seriously, how can they not notice this before airing it?
OMFG!! Just tell me what the f**k you are reminded of!! For heaven’s sake!!
you watch the feet you see she turns around and it’s still the right leg some people need to actually watch things before posting them and making themselves like idot’s
>>>>making themselves like idiot’s
>>>like idiot’s
>>idiot’s
Grammar Nazi win!

Grammar Nazi Fail! That’s why they couldn’t win WW2
Hurr durr
Photoshopped!
In case you haven’t noticed, this isn’t exactly a still image.
In case you haven’t noticed, Photoshop has supported animations for quite a while now.
oh, never mind then
Name of anime?
Which anime is this?
It’s been mentioned above several times.
crappy choppy cartoons
anime
whatever
T-1000 would be proud
Divide by zero.
YOU BEAT ME TOO IT! XD
She has crossed legs at the end
This has been faked. The episode doesn’t do this. I think she takes two steps, then turns around. You can also tell because the subtitles go WAY too fast, and don’t make sense if you read them. This was cut for sure.
To all those claiming this was faked…
VIDEO PROOF OR GTFO.
Although this disproves that this gif was the original, it just comes to show how perfectly close a coincidence can be. This is still a win for whoever made this gif.
True. I just can’t help but want to correct something that was clearly falsified as having bad animation.
It wasn’t falsified. Your video is from the DVD version, after the mistake had been corrected.
It says ”L’utilisateur a supprimé cette vidéo.” (The user deleated this video.) Now we can never know.
who cares?
Wow o_O I cnt stop looking at this either. Thats, weird.
Lol they didn’t cut anything out. They made the positions of the legs were reversed. Watching the original and then the .gif
1,000th vote!
she’s double jointed?
is just a motherf**king optical illusion, japanime better than all US animation!!!!!!!!!!!
all made in korea lol
What the ..?

WIZARD!!!
Don’t forget that Haruhi is god, she can do whatever she wants.
ZOMG It’s my favorite anime!
i’m suprised no one said this but OUCH!!!Q
Actually i have seen this episode and this does not happen. The gif you see has been shopped, you can even see where it skips when the subbs move away too quickly.
It’s faked, plain and simple. The shadow behind the guy changes slightly, it’s just careful editing.
Also, the subtitle jumps just as the legs “switch”. Not the anime people’s fault, just a lazy animator looking for a thumbs-up.
Drawing bug fail
I just saw the original anime episode this was in and remembered seeing this gif. A quick Google search later and I find everyone saying it’s a fake.
