Making direct eye contact with a strange dog and getting in that close when it’s already baring it’s teeth?
I’ll bet she wanted it put down?
No surprise it bit her, she was being confrontational and the dog retaliated.
The guys didn’t help either. Luckily, as the dog was sitting down, it was off balance when they pulled it back. Were that not the case, it would have lunged forward and possible mauled her. What they should’ve done was put the dog laying on its side and keep it there until it calmed down…
Guess what, no one cares. Of course it’s stupid to stick your face in a dogs face. However, a well trained lab or golden retriever would do something like that considerably less than a pit bull. I’ve approached hundreds of trained labs before and they never attempt to bite. I’ve been bitten twice – once by a chihuahua and once by a German Shepard mix, the Shepard because it was nipping at my brother while we attended our camp-fire on a fishing trip, and I stepped between them. Guess who ran away yelping with it’s tail between it’s legs?
Why do people defend breeds of dog that are ugly, and are naturally more aggressive than other breeds. It’s a fact.
Am I scared to pet a strange lab or retriever? No. Would I pet a pitbull at all? No. Am I just following a stereotype? No, I’m logically assessing the facts that are out there, some breeds are more gentle than others. Can any breed attack? Of course.
^This person is stupid. I know I’m stating the obvious but I just feel like I have to say it. And yes you are just following a stereotype, if you had put a little bit of research into what you wanted to say before you posted it you would have avoided looking like an idiot.
DRH’s comment makes more sense than yours. Yes, the person was stupid to put their face up against a dog’s, but you don’t take an aggressive dog on a bloody TV show.
Will you produce the research that you speak of? Because all the stuff I looked up actually supports DRH’s argument – some breeds of dog are simply more aggressive than others. You don’t mix stupidity with dangerous breeds.
No matter what breed it is you should still know how to be safe around dogs or any kind of pet. It was showing several signs of agitation and they are the same ones that are used by every breed of dog. It’s just common sense and this person obviously had none.
Actually, certain breeds DO tend to be more aggressive. BUT, they will NOT act out in such a way if they are treated and trained right. I have been around many dogs in my life and many of them pitbulls. I own a pitbull myself and if anything he is more gentle than your “retrievers” and/or “labrodors”. Oh and also statistically there are more bites from your gentle golden retriever than there are pitbulls. Pitbulls are televised like this for a reason, the stigma is being re-enforced. If you are scared to pet a pitbull who is being walked casually by its owner, you have a problem. I don’t care what breed it is, you ask what their behavior is before you pet it, INCLUDING your “gentle” breeds.
No, according to the news it was a Dogo Argentinio (Argentine Mastiff). But you`re right, different breed entirely. These were bred as hunting dogs in South America.
That woman knows nothing about dogs. That dog was giving her all kinds of warnings ahead of time to stay back. What an idiot.
Maybe you should pull your eyelids back so you can see.
For everyone else reading, that was stupid talk, so kinseth could understand. What I was saying was “open your eyes, dumbass”
Wow, why would any dog being forcibly held in a submissive position snap at a woman who has opted to position her face 2 centimeters from its jaws? Crazy.
The lab I had as a kid would not : she never bit or barked (or growled even, I think)
It’s safe to say : the owner of that dog is a retard for not training it properly.
And if it’s an attack dog, “properly” would be training it to only attack what you want it to, which is clearly not the case.
A pitbull raised to be submissive wouldn’t have either. But in the animal world, the motion of getting that close is seen as a predatory threat. The woman is an idiot.
a lab might have , or any dog.. this dog was stressed , was recently saved from drowning, brought into a studio setting, with strange lights cameras , was held in a uncomfortably restrained position, then and ass hat reporter stuck her face in his . this is what we refer to asa provoked attack , the dog raised it’s heckles and was giving her several warnings to back off. i believe in the video it also growled at her as well as bared it’s teeth BEFORE biting. she had been warned .
Exactly, he gave enough warning that this is uncomfortable situation for him, the reporter was stupid, but so was the dog handler, who should have stopped her, if he saw the behavior of the dog. If he didn’t know, he has no bussiness being dog handler.
He wasn’t a dog handler of any sort. He was a guy who stupidly was walking his dog without a leash, the dog ran after a coyote and fell through the ice and had to be rescued. The owner of this dog is a complete idiot. I bet he knows absolutely nothing about this dog except it he looks cool for owning it. She should sue him for gross negligence. The reporter wasn’t very bright either but the owner is more at fault.
Yes, obviously we want every random idiot suing everyone for every stupid thing they do. It is not the owner’s fault at all. If my dog were to rip your head off for poking it with a stick then it would be your fault.
You are the dogs owner, you are responsible for its actions. If he was poking your dog with a stick, it’s your responsibility to make him stop before your dog snaps or remedy the situation otherwise.
I would find it absolutely reasonable for her to sue. She doesn’t know the dog (maybe she doesn’t know dogs well at all) and did not recognize the warning signs. The owner is at fault for having not caught on to the signs and prevented the following events.
If you see someone with a tame tiger, and you run up to the tiger and stick your hand in its mouth, is the owner responsible for your impending mauling, or are you?
You can’t be completely responsible for everyone around you. The owners had hands on the dog’s leash and were keeping it in a controlled state. Notice how the dog was unable to move or follow-up on his attack. The only way they could have prevented any further harm would be to kick the stupid reporter’s face away when she decided to lean in.
It is not the owner’s fault. It is the reporter’s and the stupid idea that all dogs are man’s best friends.
Completely untrue. I see just as many vicious labs and golden retrievers as I do vicious pitties. While there are some breeds that ARE more prone to aggression, even this fact doesn’t mean they WILL be aggressive. Studies have shown that the owner of the dog has more influence than the genes of the dog.
Any dog, no matter what breed or how well you think you know them, will snap when pushed too far. This dog tried to let her know it was too far, but she responding by invading its space.
I think part of the misconception with pit bulls is that there is a tendency to report any dog that bites someone as a pit bull, as long as it’s not too shaggy and has four legs.
So you have been woefully misinformed. I do hope in the future you’ll take some time to objectively evaluate information (even the information I’ve given you here) before accepting it as factual.
A lab in the same state of mind would have.
Also, she was being confrontational, likely making direct eye contact with the dog and advancing her position on it…
First of all, any idiot that puts their face a couple of inches in front of a strange dog that is in what I can only imagine to be a stressful situation (being held back around several people it has never met) is just asking to get bit. If it’s not your dog you should NEVER put your face anywhere close to theirs. I don’t care what kind of a breed it is, you’re asking to get snapped at.
Second, a pitbull (and any dog for that matter) can be a fine family dog if it is raised properly. If it comes from a line bred specifically for dog fighting or other aggressive actions, sure you probably shouldn’t have it around kids, but the main point is that upbringing is just as if not more important than the breed. Any dog of any breed can be sweet and lovable or nasty and snappy.
Im sure your sentiments are heartfelt but when you are trying to get a dog adopted and it bites the host… chances are that dog will be put down instead.
I’m not really sure what your reply that has to do with my post. The dog in the video already has an owner, they’re not looking for get it adopted. And if you’re saying that dogs that bite people are less likely to get adopted… well yeah I’d say that’s true about any and all dog breeds that bite people.
Dog handler is there to prevent exactly these kind of situations, he should know the behavior of the given dog and control the whole situation accordingly.
actually it has nothing to even do with the lines or the training.. pit bulls (which this isn’t BTW) are bred to be friendly to all humans .. and even fought dogs can be rehabbed depending on there prior situation. best friends actually did very well rehabbing some of vics dogs.
*actually it has nothing to [nothing here] do with the breed or the training… pit bulls (which this isn’t BTW) can be bred to be friendly to all humans…[seriously? missing a period both times?] and even fighting dogs can be rehabbed depending on there prior situation. My friends’ best friends actually did very well rehabbing some of vicious dogs.
fix’d it… not sure if i got everything right (that lines thing doesn’t even make sense, so I guessed) but it’s a lot better now. Learn to type, lest ye look like a fool.
P.S: None of that “English not my first language” crap. It’s not mine either, yet I use it well.
oh… and (this isn’t a BTW)*their
… oh wait, it IS a BTW, since BTW means you’re adding something to what you said, kind of like when you added the comment about pitbulls’ breeding.
I have a dog that is almost the size of a German Sherpard and whenever she snarls or gives signs of stress, I don’t get close to her or start petting her, but try to calm her down from a certain distance. Dogs, even if within a familiar environment or around familiar people, can become violent when in stressful situations such as fear, pain or anxity.
Not trying to argue, just giving a point that it doesn’t matter whether it’s a strange or a family dog. When in stress or snarrling, never EVER touch.
My family has 2 dogs… one of which is part german shepard. Whenever she snarls or gives signs of stress, we pull her away from whatever is causing a problem for her. She doesn’t bite us because we trained her not to bite.
A well trained dog, even in stressful situations such as fear, pain or anxity will not bite someone who is not the cause of the situation.
in the gif, you can’t tell… check the sauce and you’ll see it playfully licking at her and having a good time… till she gets her face a bit closer then it instantly goes wild.
You can clearly see the dog licking her and her petting it when BAM! In reality, the attack is quite sudden, whereas the gif slows it down considerably. I highly doubt anybody could have reacted in time.
and neither do pitbulls have to. so your point is?
my statement stands, golden retrievers bite more often than any of these “killer” dogs ever will do. and yes, even their bite will damage, but of course that dog isnt newsworthy so who cares?
I hate the ignorant pit bull haters. I do agree that certain dog breeds are more prone to aggressive behavior and unfortunately pit bulls are notorious for this because morons use them for dog fighting. The only reason they’re used for dog fighting is because of their extremely strong jaws, which coincidentally is why when they do attack they do so much damage. Rotweilers, huskies, german shephards, chows and others attack just as much if not more than pit bulls. There are even reported deaths caused by pomeranians. Yeah you heard me, your grandmothers 4 pound dog has killed before. A dogs behavior is altered by its environment, my dog is the nicest Weimaraner but when I took him to a family reunion a year ago he was so nervous and confused that he was getting a little snarly. Just took awhile to get comfortable.
I work at a Vet clinic, and I can honestly say that Maltese, Chihuahuas, and male Jack Russell terriers can be some of the dogs most likely to bite. Cocker Spaniels are risky sometimes. We have the occasional aggressive Goldens, Dalmatians, and Great Danes. The worst dog that comes in is a male Jack Russell terrier. He’s small but he’s angry. It used to be a Great Dane but he finally passed away after living to be 14 years old (usually they pass at around 8 or 9). He convinced us that Evil is a preservative.
Salt is a preservative, so it is evil… The japanese use salt to repel evil spirits…
which leads us to only one logical conclusion :
- Japanese are evil and their “evil” spirits are actually good spirits.
My pitbull is the perfect family dog. He’s had toddlers run up to him and pull his ears (hard) and done nothing to them.
He’d only eat your brains (a very small meal) after I kicked them out of your a$$, and only after I say ok.
I’m glad that your children are still alive. With a pit bull though, you run the risk of having him snap one day and eating their face off. It happens to people just like you who say that their dog is the sweetest dog in the world. Pitbulls have a reputation for a reason
Have a reputation…Given to them. Thanks to an explosive media who fail to report the 4 other animal attacks on children, that occured in my jurisdication, all non-bull breeds, within the last month. One a lab mix, two terriers and one dalmation. I forwarded those instances to my local AND national media, no bite. God forbid a pit so much as BARKS too loud and right away, he’s attacking people.
so what i just read off that chart is that you have a 100% chance to be mauled by a pitbull, but only a 5% chance to be mauled by a rottweiler?
that makes total sense
Ok ok ok. So this graph is a Normalized (meaning weighted to a specific factor, likely the pit bull given the 100) Bodily Harm Likelihood (likely to cause harm… when biting, I would suspect) by Breed (of which there are some 26 “pit bull” breeds).
All this tells me is that when a breed bites, I will know how likely it is to cause an unspecified amount of damage.
So, given the fact that all the pit bulls have very strong jaws, I sure as hell do believe they will cause damage each and every time they bite.
This tells me NOTHING about how likely they are to bite.
^ Exactly. No matter how many awesome stories about pitbulls come out, no matter how many other dogs bite people. The pit will get negative media coverage. People love to hate what they don’t understand. When you see pitbulls being abused and breed to fight.. of course that is going to be in the media. There are stories like this out there:
I don’t have kids. These were overzealous (and sweet) stranger’s kids who’ve had no relationship with my pit. He loves people.
In fact, my pit was a bait dog that escaped and found his way to my home.
In the 13 years that I’ve had him (which I think is adequate time to get a gauge of his personality) he’s NEVER snapped or even nipped at anyone.
My lab/shep/collie mix however, has… but he has epilepsy and is spooked very easily by strangers who don’t know not to sneak up on him and stick their hand in his face when he’s eating.
You are an incredible idiot. It’s called ‘willful ignorance,’ my friend, and you are practicing it right now.
Dogs are domesticated animals. They are whatever they have been made to be. Pit bulls have a history of being abused for fighting purposes, so they’re demonized as vicious, even when the breed is clearly not.
But you know what dog is vicious? A three-pound chihuahua that bites everything that moves. The great Dane that lunges at everyone that sets foot in his yard. The malamute that has food aggression.
“Vicious” is an individual term. Do not force it on a group that has been clearly and systematically maligned. I mean, even after WWII, no one calls all Germans Nazis. Except, probably, you.
According to the CDC of the 4.7 million Americans who are bitten by dogs- bites ranging from mere scratches to fatal attacks- there are only about 16 fatalities, which is about 0.0002 percent of the total number of people who are bitten. In reality, the CDC feels that because the number of people killed by dog bites is relatively miniscule, there’s just no way that anyone can accurately identify the number of dogs of any particular breed that is more likely to bite and kill.
The dog that has the most fatalities is consistently whatever the most popular large breed dog.
What IS the dog most likely to turn on you? 1 dachshunds 2 chihuahuas 3 jack russel terriers.
The most horrifying example of the lack of breed predictability is the October 2000 death of a 6-week-old baby, which was killed by her family’s Pomeranian dog. The average weight of a Pomeranian is about 4 pounds, and they are not thought of as a dangerous breed. Note, however, that they were bred to be watchdogs! The baby’s uncle left the infant and the dog on a bed while the uncle prepared her bottle in the kitchen. Upon his return, the dog was mauling the baby, who died shortly afterwards. (“Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog,” Los Angeles Times, Monday, October 9, 2000, Home Edition, Metro Section, Page B-5.)
In Canine homicides and the dog bite epidemic: do not confuse them, it has been pointed out that the dog bite epidemic as a whole involves all dogs and all dog owners, not just the breeds most likely to kill. In all fairness, therefore, it must be noted that:
Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner or handler most often is responsible for making a dog into something dangerous.
An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above).
Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be potentially dangerous. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack.
It doesn’t matter what breed of dog you own. Anyone who ownes a dog, or cat, etc, runs the risk of getting “their face eaten off”. That is an ignorant statement you just made. Anyone who has any real experience with aniamls knows that you can only trust and animal so much, and you have to be able to read their body language. Pit bulls only have a bad reputation because of the few stupid people who breed for agression to get fighting dogs. When raised correctly, Pitbulls are very good family dogs.
learn your facts before you talk….. pits have a rep because of stupid people that abuse them not because of the breed. You run the risk of a dog snapping no matter the breed. And by the way you are much more likely to by killed by something you eat than by all dog breeds put together! Pits are no more dangerous than their owners or the stupidity that paints them as the bad guys when the blame lies on humans.
Everyone says pitbulls are sweet until they eat someone’s face. They are unstable. Normal dogs nip or lunge, but those things go for a kill. No amount of handling can remove that risk
from seeing the video, I have to agree with mookie. That was one heck of an unstable dog.
He was licking the news anchor as she was petting him, he was showing no agressive behavior… then she moves a bit closer to him and he just jumps at her instantly.
not saying it’s a breed thing, but in this case, unstable yes… and if it IS a breed thing, then a goofball/adorable dog can snap any second.
Also agree on the counter points to this, pit bulls are excelent family dogs, one of the best breeds for getting along with people you can get. Putting any dog on a TV set is a huge stress inducer if the dog isn’t used to it (tons of lights, hundreds of people it dosn’t know, sounds stage etc… Then you restrain it’s movement, stress doubles, then you ignore his warnings as you close distance, then someone he dosn’t know moves in close, looks him in the eye. I don’t care what breed of dog you have, unless he has been slowly introduced to each of those stimuli, and trained in those conditions. that is asking for a snap in the face, which will happen with any breed of dog from a lab, to a golden retriever to a poodle to a pit bull.
“A dog is not defined by their breed, but by the way they were raised”
Personality traits are passed on through breeding….It’s a long, slow process, and not all the offspring will demonstrate their parent’s traits, but yes, animals can be defined by their breeding.
This is especially evident in the breeding of horses – many of the draught horses (the ones that pull the carts) are known for being very calm tempered. You can trace many of the purebloods to only a handful of stallions, which were valued for their levelheadedness.
But the fact is PERSONALITY IS A TRAIT THAT IS PASSED ON.
Yep. The dog was trying to say “get out of my face lady”. Part of their language is taking a snap at someone without biting them. Had he wanted to, he’d have bitten the lady’s nose off. Instead he taught her a dog-lesson to never shove your f**king ugly face in a dogs face when he’s mad!
Actually, pit bulls are in the terrier family. Their full breed name is ‘pit bull terrier.’
Mastiffs are a different breed family altogether, although they tend to be a lot larger and heavier than the Dogo Argentine (which looks like a French name and not Spanish?).
i have 2 pitbulls and they are both well trained, happy, and well bebehaved. this is NOT how ALL pitbulls are. let that be a lesson to the morona out there who think all pitbulls are vicious and nasty.
Listenup f**ktards. I have had stitches on ym face because a Friendly family golden retriever snapped at me when I put my face to it. I had a little chocolate on my face, cuz I Was a kid, and dogs gonna bite. It is logic. A friend has a Lab, same thing. Pitbulls are great pets, how you raise a dog, and how stupid you act around it depends on wether or not you keep your ugly f**king face. Thumbs for me on this video. you jelly?
As a dog lover, I am so relieved to see that so many here actually understand that it is not dog breeds that are bad but those that raise them. One of my best friends had a pit bull/sharpei that was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known.
The news anchor clearly didn’t know how to be around a dog she didn’t know. If you’re around dogs enough you learn to recognize their body language and know when it is safe to approach them and when they are feeling threatened. They will always let you know. This dog was in a new, and uncomfortable, situation with people it didn’t know. It was anxious and then the anchor put her face close enough to get bit.
As someone with an ounce of common sense Im upset to hear that you ignore the statistics of severity and viciousness of the attacks of dogs of this nature. You dont hear about a deadly yorkie attack do you? no. But how many times have you heard about a pitbull or mastiff attacking and/or ki.lling a kid? Stop defending a breed that’s been bread for fighting/protection since the 70′s and is pound for pound the strongest dog in the world.
Are you retarded; a deadly yorkie attack?! I bet you anything if you couldn’t pick one of those yuppy dog and throw them across a room, those dogs would be likely to kill. I have felt more wary of smaller breed dogs than any large breed. My 90 lb boxer/pit mix proves that these dogs are born with a fair chance to have sweet natures. Stop putting down something you have no experience with. I do, I have worked in many shelters, most dogs coming in are pit mixes. Who get ignored because of people like you judge them before you get to know them.
As someone with an ounce of common sense I’m upset to hear that you trust your news networks to report trustworthy and unbiased reports. As another commenter mentioned, many dog attacks go unheralded because they are “not news worthy” due to the breed of dog. You don’t hear about the lab or the retriever attacking or killing a child because the news doesn’t consider it good for ratings, not because it doesn’t happen.
We had a golden retriever put down in our neighbourhood a few years ago because it was attacking children. That wasn’t news worthy, but I’d bet if the neighbour’s coydog so much as growled at the mailman there’d be an outcry on the networks.
You’ll notice that he mentioned FATALITIES. That golden retriever was attacking children but was not able to kill any of them. If it had been a pitbull in stead, it’s stronger jaw would have probably allowed it to. THAT is the issue. The news talks about more pitbull attacks than others because these generally cause more damage when they happen.
Dog related injuries are bad, but a death is worse.
As someone with an ounce of common sense I’m upset to hear that you trust your news networks to be unbiased in their reports. As another commenter mentioned, many dog attacks are not reported because they are not news worthy. You don’t hear about labs or retrievers or chihuahuas attacking children because its not good for ratings, not because they don’t commonly attack people.
also look at the sample size most of the sites i pull up with dog breed attack statistics are sampling. 33% pits . withe next breed size in the sample at .3%, they remove the other breeds and only show the numbers for 4 or 5 “vicious dogs” then of course there numbers look the highest the charts the media uses aren’t graded to balance out the actually % of likleyhood because there sample sizes are so large. .
they also do not break down all breeds .
I would also like to point out . a lot of the reported cases that blame pits, are from people tossing a breed out.. case in point.. I was walking my 3 dogs down the street and a person crossed over to the other side of the road screaming get that damn pit away from me !!! .. …… I Own 3 miniature schnauzers,,, all sporting schnauzer clips with full beards…. it’s hard to trust statistics when so many people can’t even identify the breed. here is a test . can you? http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html
(Probably going to get tl;dr’ed on this, but oh well.)
There’s your problem: “bred for fighting/protection”. Human intervention right there. Without humans purposefully breeding these dogs for aggressiveness, there would probably not be such a strong stigma on the Pit Bull.
Also, I believe there is an image floating around on the web that points out how certain dog breeds have been portrayed over the years. I am unsure of how exactly it was researched, but I tend to notice the same pattern. That is:
- In the 70s, ‘they’ blamed the Doberman Pinschers
- In the 80s, ‘they’ blamed the German Shepherds
- In the 90s, ‘they’ blamed the Rottweilers
- Now ‘they’ blame the Pit Bulls
(‘They’ largely being the media and entertainment companies)
Now, considering those three previously-stigmatized breeds are largely considered suitable family pets in this day and age, I’m pretty damn sure the problem lies not with the dogs, but with the humans who breed and train them.
An investigation of every American dog attack fatality. Notice the large number of dogs reported as pit bulls but after investigations a dog expert was unable to identify the breeds of the dogs from photos. The thing is with media, if it isn’t flashy it doesn’t get attention. “Unknown dog kills man” is far less drawing than “Man dead in possible pit bull attack.” And then from there we all get the idea that pit bulls must be vicious. Now granted it is possible that some of these are pit bull attacks, but since news networks don’t have to report on fact if they just put the qualifier “possible” in there they go for what is flashy if they can.
thing is now that dog will possibly get put down for that and all because she was sticking he face in the nervous face of that dog come on if a dog is nervous you dont imtimidate it! pitbull or not
The dog will not be put down.
The owner was fined for not being up on the dogs shots and registration, but the dog is to be released from quarantine shortly.
These bite statistics are based on dog bites that were reported. There are millions of dog bites that go unreported because they do not need any medical attention. You ask any dog groomer what breed bites the most, they’ll say Cocker Spaniel.
Statistics are bull.
Not to mention the fact that people who are going to mistreat their dog are more likely to get a Pit Bull or Mastif or something similar because they want them to fight or be guard dogs. No one gets a poodle for that reason.
Every poodle I’ve ever met has been vicious and nasty. Aside from my great aunt’s old teacups, but it’s hard to be biter with cataracts and deafness. Every pit bull I’ve met has been a little cuddle muffin.
I’d just like to say that speaking from experience as a pit bull owner, that most pit bulls aren’t aggressive at all. I’ve had a pit bull since I was seven and he has been a great companion to my little autistic sister who when she was younger used to regularly dress him up in her pink dress up tutu and he wouldn’t even bat an eye. But because he’s a pit bull I as his owner have been yelled at on the street when walking him. Because of his breed people assume he is aggressive but treat my smaller Shetland sheep dog, who has serious aggression issues with other dogs, like she’s cute and sweet and cuddly. It’s not fair to stereotype any dog because of their breed. Each dog is different. They were raised different, trained different, and were born different, and this ultimately decides how they’re going to react in anxiety inducing situations.
Also to point out if that woman was stupid enough to put her face right up into that dog’s face when it was obviously warning her that it was upset and nervous she shouldn’t be allowed near ANY dog.
People CANNOT blame the dog when things like this happen. Weird environments are stressful on anyone, human or animal. My american bulldog bit another dog at the vet recently. Owners acted like it was my fault. But my dog was sitting between my legs, clearly nervous, and this random strange dog gets in her face and starts licking her and pawing at her face. So yeah I’m pretty sure if I was at a strange doctor and about to have surgery, and some random stranger got two inches from my face and started talking my ear off, I’m pretty sure I’d snap too!
This dog was showing SO many signs of being stressed. I can see this in the three seconds that this clip is. The dog is SNARLING before she even puts her face in front of his!
Why is every dog bite associated with pitbulls. First off it’s not a pit you retard, and to follow that any dog can be aggressive if raised improperly. Don’t blame the dog here because the handlers said it gave all the warning signs that it was going to bite but she ignored them.
Dogs have personal space. If you get right up in their face when they are obviously nervous, or simply don’t want you that close, you are asking for it.
I work in a pet store in Florida…so there are a LOT of pit bull owners. Not once has a customer’s pit tried to harm me. In fact, they are incredibly friendly, loving dogs.
On the other hand, I have been chewed on viciously by tiny rat dog Chihuahuas that didn’t want to be fitted for harnesses, and charged at by someone’s Chow Chow (every single Chow I’ve EVER met has attacked me or someone I know).
Am I afraid of Chows? Nope. I just know they don’t like strangers, and keep my distance.
Do I believe that there are certain dogs that simply should not be seen as family pets? Yep. Do I feel Pits fall into that category? Not at all.
They are so grossly misrepresented, horrendously abused, and put through the most terrible things a person can do to an animal, it’s a small wonder why they AREN’T vicious towards humans.
Hating a breed based on what certain members of it were forced to do by evil human beings is absolutely stupid.
GOD DANGIT!! COME ON PEOPLE… It’s not a pit bull.. and NO ONE wants to see this as a GIF… It wasn’t even the dog’s fault… I volunteer for a shelter with Pit Bulls every Saturday, they are some of the nicest dogs out there… People like you are giving bad names to great dogs… I could rant more but I think the people above me have pretty much covered it.
That bite was TOTALLY preventable and DIDN’T have to happen. Anyone who has the least bit of understanding of dog behaviour would have NOT been holding this dog in such a “vulnerable” position. This dog sent a CLEAR signal – via the bared teeth to this woman to “Back off NOW!” – but she continues to stick her face mere centimetres from the dog’s. That she is also likely looking it straight in the eyes is also something one should never do with a stranged dog – as that’s a sign of dominance/challenge. She got bitten and God only knows what later happened to that poor dog – it may have been put down. For what? For someone’s stupidity!
Those who are quick to judge the REPORTER though need to get their facts straight, also; the dog had been at the studio for some time prior and up until this incident had been calm and normal.
Note that there are further articles that state the dog will likely be going back to its owners, and that the issue of not being up-to-date on shots may have not been true.
The long and short of this incident is it was just an unfortunate accident, no need to get all “let’s kill all the dogs” or “man, that anchor was stupid”. Accidents happen.
So to sum up: She had a lapse in judgment, the handler did not do his job, they shouldn’t have put the dog in that position in the first place, he didn’t get put down, it’s not a pit bull, and the media has created a monster. Phew…
This is the fault of the woman. She should have not attempted to stare it down even though he was showing his teeth which is a sign of aggression. Anyone with any lick of common sense would not stare at that dog in the eyes from that point.
Why not throw my opinion on the pile? The pit bulls I’ve known are the most loving dogs I have ever know (including my black lab, who actually did bite someone he thought was threatening my sister). This dog is about 120lbs but loves to jump in my lap whenever I come over. He is super tolerant, loves kids and people, other dogs and is actually pretty intelligent. And since I have known him, I have met other pits and they are really awesome dogs and possess similar dispositions. Please folks, don’t malign the breed based on what you are told… get to know a pit bull and they will melt your heart, not eat it.
So, just to add to the conversation. Along with pitbulls, what are the other normally “vicious dogs” in the media’s eyes? Rottweilers and Dobermans, right? Well my dog is a HUGE Rottweiler shepherd mix with a possible hint of Doberman. And this dog is the biggest wussy I have ever laid eyes on. Hes sweet as all get out and has never attacked another living being in his 6 years of life. Hes only growled at one man and that was a man actively threatening my family and trying to force his way into our house. Dogs are raised to be what they are. And they can be trained to change their ways.
I am friends with a family that only takes in foster pitbulls and Great Danes. Only one of their pitbulls has ever killed anything…he killed two cats and then he died trying to get out of a fence, his collar got caught, and he suffocated. That animal had been tortured his whole life and trained to chase cats. The other, oh, 20 or so they’ve had are wonderful creatures, gentle and kind. They’re scared but if you don’t stick your stupid face in theirs and treat them with kindness, they understand and they will love you for it.
Animals just want to be loved. And when you approach an animal with stupid intimidation or wrongful fear, the animal will respond. They try their best. They are what we’ve made them. That hurts my very soul that there are people out there actively choosing to be ignorant, listen to media hype, and want beautiful animals like pitbulls killed. This animal may not be a pitbull, but its big. I’m sure the bias is there. He doesn’t deserve that.
Let’s hope someone actually reads this.
Not all dogs are the same. Many people have said it’s not a pitbull but a completely different breed. One argument that I always make is not every dog is the same.
All dogs have a different personality and assuming that they are all the same is like saying all white people are the same, all black people are the same, all mexicans are the same and if you believe that then you are stupid.
Pitbulls are freaking cute and are total face lickers.
when a mastiff like that, who has been saved from someone that was being awfull with it, shows you his teeth. you gotta know its a warning sign. pretty much tells you to back the F*** away. also, whats the followup story on this? i see the dog kind of chewing or something afterwards.
why does no one ever let a dog sniff their hand before shoving their face in front of it, its their standard way of finding out who you are, let em sniff your hand if they like you they’ll lick it or ease up, if not they’ll move away as a warning. simple dog logic.
Being a dog groomer, I find westies and shih tzus are the worst for biting, on the other hand I have a pit bull regular who comes in every few months.(yes I do realise the dog in the gif is not a pit bull…before someone mentions it)
He is one of my favourite dogs to work with, the first thing he does when he comes in is jump on the grooming table waiting to be brushed, he has NEVER given me any hassle, I can even brush his teeth!….and that’s not something I can do very often with other dogs.
I’ve been working with him since he was a pup, there are two kids living in the house with him and I’ve seen these kids sit on the dog…pull his ears, poke him in the eye, play drums on his back, pull his tail. All he does is either ignore them or lick them, he’s learned that when he licks them a lot, they get all grossed out and leave him alone.
The difference between this pit bull and the pit bulls we hear about on the news are the owners. Simple as.
If a kid who was running around terrorizing people and being disrespectful the parents would get get blamed.
ANY dog can be considered dangerous if it hasn’t been raised properly. Blame the deed not the breed.
Women!
*that woman
Stupid woman…
DRH : has examples and arguments to prove his point
WaR1oK : Inane blather about disagreeing
Not taking any sides on the debate but…
DRH wins this argument, even if he is wrong.
P.S: I like how WaR1oK talks about DRH looking like an idiot while looking like an idiot himself.
Like guys never get bit. Stupidity isn’t limited to one sex.
You’re right, everyone is stupid.
It’s not a pit bull.
It’s a bull mastiff.
Different animals.
Also, a little graphic, don’t you think?
NOM
No, according to the news it was a Dogo Argentinio (Argentine Mastiff). But you`re right, different breed entirely. These were bred as hunting dogs in South America.
That woman knows nothing about dogs. That dog was giving her all kinds of warnings ahead of time to stay back. What an idiot.
got your nose
It was a bull mastiff. And wtf did she think was going to happen sticking her face in the snout of an obviously nervous dog?
Also, did you see the way she was petting it? Thing’s eyelids got pulled back. I’d be pissed after that too.
… she didn’t touch the top of its head O_o
Maybe you should pull your eyelids back so you can see.
For everyone else reading, that was stupid talk, so kinseth could understand. What I was saying was “open your eyes, dumbass”
That’s not a Pit Bull. Its a Argintine Mastif. Either way dumb reporter for putting her face there
terrible
Not pitbull, btw.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/08/kyle-dyer-kusa-anchor-bit_n_1263246.html
It ain’t a pitbull you ass munches!
It’s a Dogo Argentino.
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/dogo.htm
Yeah, its not a pitbull, its a dogo argentino (argentine mastiff) learn before you post.
Wow, why would any dog being forcibly held in a submissive position snap at a woman who has opted to position her face 2 centimeters from its jaws? Crazy.
A lab wouldn’t have tried to rip her face off
and you know that how?
Dude, the lab I had as a kid would have. She was not a fan of people all up in her grill.
The lab I had as a kid would not : she never bit or barked (or growled even, I think)
It’s safe to say : the owner of that dog is a retard for not training it properly.
And if it’s an attack dog, “properly” would be training it to only attack what you want it to, which is clearly not the case.
The dog isn’t on TV because it is trained. It is on TV because it was rescued from a lake or something.
Whoever chose to have this dog on TV is stupid for not considering whether it is tolerant enough to be crowded by strangers.
The only dog I’ve ever had is a pit bull and I’ve had 7.
The only dog I’ve ever known that bit someone was a black lab. And it bit a 3 year old in the face.
Please get in your car. Lock the doors. Set the passenger seat on fire.
Footnote: I’ve been a vet for 15 years.
A lab in the same state of mind would have.
Also, she was being confrontational, likely making direct eye contact with the dog and advancing her position on it…
Let this be a warning to all you morons out there that think pit bulls are the perfect family dog.
Let this be a warning to all you morons out there that think its ok to put your face in the face of a snarling dog.
dog wasnt snarling it was sitting there calmly and even licked the woman previously.
You can’t honestly look at that dog’s expression in that gif and say it’s calm, ffs.
in the gif, you can’t tell… check the sauce and you’ll see it playfully licking at her and having a good time… till she gets her face a bit closer then it instantly goes wild.
The gif is slowed down a great deal. In the original video it is only a half second before the attack that the dog makes that face.
Where in the world do you see the dog lick her? Apparently you’ve never seen a dog issue a warning. Now you have.
At first I agreed with you – the dog appears to give her sufficient warning. However, trying watching the video here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/08/kyle-dyer-kusa-anchor-bit_n_1263246.html
You can clearly see the dog licking her and her petting it when BAM! In reality, the attack is quite sudden, whereas the gif slows it down considerably. I highly doubt anybody could have reacted in time.
Puts things into context, doesn’t it?
Dude, all that was missing was ‘ I’m pissed sign ‘ on the dog’s forehead.
you do realise a golden retriever bites more humans than pitbulls and such?
Even if you didn’t just make up that fact, Golden Retrievers don’t kill children when they do bite.
and neither do pitbulls have to. so your point is?
my statement stands, golden retrievers bite more often than any of these “killer” dogs ever will do. and yes, even their bite will damage, but of course that dog isnt newsworthy so who cares?
Apart from those that do, of course…
Stupid media fueled by stupid people.
not really
http://images.sodahead.com/profiles/0/0/2/1/6/5/9/4/7/Dog-Attacks-and-Maimings-by-Breed-US-Canada-44492003530.png
so what i just read off that chart is that you have a 100% chance to be mauled by a pitbull, but only a 5% chance to be mauled by a rottweiler?
that makes total sense
It’s a normalized graph, i.e. it makes the highest likelihood into 100% here and adjusts the rest accordingly.
What a surprise, the breed most likely to be abused, trained as an attack dog, and/or used in dog fighting would have the highest rating
Thank you! someone else who can put two and two together.
People are the problem not the breed
There are stories like this out there:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/25/pit-bull-saves-woman-brain-aneurysm-_n_1030966.html
Are you f**king retarded?
I don’t have kids. These were overzealous (and sweet) stranger’s kids who’ve had no relationship with my pit. He loves people.
In fact, my pit was a bait dog that escaped and found his way to my home.
In the 13 years that I’ve had him (which I think is adequate time to get a gauge of his personality) he’s NEVER snapped or even nipped at anyone.
My lab/shep/collie mix however, has… but he has epilepsy and is spooked very easily by strangers who don’t know not to sneak up on him and stick their hand in his face when he’s eating.
AND pitbulls were the family dog of choice at the turn of the 20th century:
http://www.dontbullymybreed.org/
You’re an idiot. S
1 dachshunds 2 chihuahuas 3 jack russel terriers.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2254479/Sausage-dogs-are-the-most-aggressive-dogs.html
Please leave the planet, we don’t need you here.
Yeah, watch the video instead of the gif. This moron of a news anchor clearly put the dog in a situation where it felt threated.
My sister and her fiance own a pitbull mix and he is one of the sweetest most goofball dogs I’ve ever known!
From my experience, all dogs go for the kill, and the effectiveness of that depends on the size of the dog, not the breed specifically..
I don’t care what breed of dog you have, unless he has been slowly introduced to each of those stimuli, and trained in those conditions. that is asking for a snap in the face, which will happen with any breed of dog from a lab, to a golden retriever to a poodle to a pit bull.
http://images.sodahead.com/profiles/0/0/2/1/6/5/9/4/7/Dog-Attacks-and-Maimings-by-Breed-US-Canada-44492003530.png
The screenshot of an excel graph is doesn’t prove nothing.
A dog is not defined by their breed, but by the way they where raised.
[citation needed]
i have 8 month old kitten that likes to bite faces, your argument is invalid.
*an 8 month old kitten*
And that leaves morons like you that think that was a pit to begin with.
The story said that was an Argentinian Mastiff, btw.
Same family. Still, regardless of breed, if you go around shoving your face in a strange animals face you deserve a biting.
Dogo Argentino would be the “proper” and Spanish name. Argentine Dogo is likely Spanglish.
Nah, it’s a misnomer. Mastiffs and pit bull terriers are both part of the Molosser family.
That being said, there is a great variation in behavior between all those breeds, so it isn’t fair to say “Well same family so whatever.”
i have 2 pitbulls and they are both well trained, happy, and well bebehaved. this is NOT how ALL pitbulls are. let that be a lesson to the morona out there who think all pitbulls are vicious and nasty.
morons* this would have been a lot better if i could spell -__-
True, but the real point of contention is whether they are more likely to be agressive.
that is not a pitbull but a dogo argentino (argentinian mastiff) it was in a show because some days earlier it was rescued from icecold water.
Dogo Argentino.
Batch needs to l2dog.
Stop defending a breed that’s been bread for fighting/protection since the 70′s and is pound for pound the strongest dog in the world.
http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/dogbites/dog-bite-related-fatalities/
I was walking my 3 dogs down the street and a person crossed over to the other side of the road screaming get that damn pit away from me !!! .. …… I Own 3 miniature schnauzers,,, all sporting schnauzer clips with full beards…. it’s hard to trust statistics when so many people can’t even identify the breed. here is a test . can you?

I like this line -
There is no scientific evidence that one kind of dog is more likely to injure a human being than another kind of dog.
^ This
(Probably going to get tl;dr’ed on this, but oh well.)
Now, considering those three previously-stigmatized breeds are largely considered suitable family pets in this day and age, I’m pretty damn sure the problem lies not with the dogs, but with the humans who breed and train them.
http://nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/uploaded_files/tinymce/2010%20DBRF%20Report%20FINAL_1.pdf
The dog is not a pit bull, you should probably change the title of the gif and not reinforce idiotic stereotypes.
I haven’t seen anyone mention this at all in this thread, but I think that may not be a pit bull.
It has been mentioned like six hundred times before smart one.
Hay guise i’m surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but it isn’t a pitbull you fools
You are retarded.
thing is now that dog will possibly get put down for that and all because she was sticking he face in the nervous face of that dog come on if a dog is nervous you dont imtimidate it! pitbull or not
The dog will not be put down.
The owner was fined for not being up on the dogs shots and registration, but the dog is to be released from quarantine shortly.
thx 4 the heads up.
Glad to hear the dog was not harmed or anything
this was hard to masturbate to until they showed the men.
And that son is how Voldemort lost his nose
A gif of a video of a filmed TV… We need to go deeper.
breaking news ,this is not a pitbull
You are even more retarded than the eighty other people who mentioned this.
These bite statistics are based on dog bites that were reported. There are millions of dog bites that go unreported because they do not need any medical attention. You ask any dog groomer what breed bites the most, they’ll say Cocker Spaniel.
Statistics are bull.
same issue with poodles and chi’s , they’re even worse because so many small dog owner encourage the behavior because they think it’s “cute”.
My point is that these breeds seem to be viscous it is probably because they are trained to be. You dont train a small dog to be a guard dog.
Chill guys, we only know what kind of dog it is because we read the article more closely.
that totally could have been prevented, if she was smart and stayed out of a strange dog’s face…. dumb dumb dumb,
People CANNOT blame the dog when things like this happen.
Neat gif!
(Especially since a female news anchor is bound to be rather vain about her appearance
Those who are quick to judge the REPORTER though need to get their facts straight, also; the dog had been at the studio for some time prior and up until this incident had been calm and normal.
http://www.9news.com/news/article/247881/188/9NEWS-anchor-injured-during-morning-show?odyssey=obinsite
See the letter at the bottom.
This is not a pit bull, you uneducated moron.
You’re stupid for making us aware of something a hundred other people have already made us aware of. GTFO!
Either you’re trolling (likely) or you seriously think that he’s not aware of the joke (highly unlikely).
Guess what? It’s a joke! o3o
I actually think iamjohn is that stupid, seeing him getting more mad after every comment, lol
Anybody who knows anything about dogs could have seen that attack coming……
She had that coming, stupid woman.
1st, stupid reporter. Had it comming.
2nd, i love how the handlers looks completely unsurprised, and they are even petting the dog afterwards
What a f’ing moron. Lady deserved it.
How does sticking your face in front of a unfamiliar dog seem like a good idea? No matter what the breed, it’s a retarded idea.
Oh yeah.. and this just adds one more thing to a Pit Bull’s bad name. Even though it’s not a Pit Bull, it’ll still get the rap.
Why would she stick her face in a dog’s?…
Be it a bull mastiff or a chihuahua, doing that is just asking to get bit.
Yes, let’s just feed into the stereotype, why don’t we?
“Your eyes? Do they bleed? No? Moar!”
I love my dogo
poor victims; cat, little dog, bird, 2 raccoons.
I love how the other guys just ignore her like, “Oh you got bit? Yeah that happens when you piss the dog off.”
WHY would you ever put your face in the face of a dog who is looking like that? The dog obviously feels threatened. Idiot lady…
LOL, I love how they don’t even react to the woman..
This makes me feel embarresed… For women.. Women and animals… Stupid witch. I would bite her too.
I like how the guys just sit there with no response it seems :3
Thats not a pit. Its a Dogo Argentino. And that woman deserved to have her face bit. Dont get in a strange dogs face…idiot.
Lmao, look at the number and the length of all these comments.
I like how the firefighter was able to put his hand on the dog’s mouth and not get bit.
